2 firefighters who tried to save local couple get Medal of Valor
Orange County fire Capts. Jamie Murphy and Aaron Clark are honored for their efforts during an Oct. 30 house fire that killed Doris Walker-Smith and her husband, Jack.
Two firefighters were awarded the Orange County Fire Authority's Medal of Valor for their attempt to save local historian Doris Walker-Smith and her husband, Jack, as the couple's Dana Point home burned Oct. 30.
Capts. Jamie Murphy and Aaron Clark were honored Thursday at the OCFA's annual "Best and Bravest" awards ceremony at the Irvine Marriott.
Officials said the two made their way through flames, heavy smoke and stacked belongings to help bring out the couple. Walker-Smith, 78, and Jack Pierson Smith, 81, both later died.
